Since we’re going through the 10 commandments, take some time to read through Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. Pastor Hugenberger at Park Street gave a fantastic sermon series on the commandments. If you want to be super prepared, download the series HERE and listen to a few of them. Enjoy!
We talked about the word “Abba” in Sunday School this morning as part of our relationship with the Father. When God regenerates us, He adopts us into His family and we can now call Him our true father. Here is a writeup explaining both the Old and New Testament meaning of the Word. Thank you Michael Fink and Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary!
ABBA (Ăbʹ bȧ) Aramaic word for “father” used by Jesus to speak of His own intimate relationship with God, a relationship that others can enter through faith. It may also refer to an ancestor, grandfather, founder (of something), protector, or even used as an honorary title for an elder.
Old Testament Although abba does not occur in the OT, its Hebrew associate ab occurs frequently. Ab usually refers to a human father. On occasion the OT speaks of God in the role of Father to Israel (Exod. 4:22; Deut. 32:6; Isa. 45:9–11; Mal. 2:10) or to Israel’s king (2 Sam. 7:14; Pss. 2:7; 89:26–27).
New Testament The idea of God’s intimate relationship to humanity is a distinct feature of Jesus’ teaching. God relates to believers as a father relates to his child. Some would translate Abba as “Daddy” to convey the close, personal meaning of the word. Even when “Father” in the NT translates the more formal Greek word pater, the idea of Abba is certainly in the background. Jesus addressed God as Abba in prayer (Mark 14:36) and taught His disciples to pray in the same terms (Luke 11:1–2, pater). Jesus’ claim of intimate relationship with God offended many of His opponents because they considered Abba to be overly familiar in addressing God. Nevertheless, Jesus’ usage established the pattern for the church’s view of God and each believer’s relationship with Him. Paul used Abbato describe God’s adoption of believers as His children (Rom. 8:15) and the change in the believer’s status with God that results (Gal. 4:6–7).
Just a reminder that all of us – the youth and college group – will be hosting hospitality this coming Sunday, February 26th.
Please see the Facebook Event and Sign Up to bring something! We need everyone’s help.
Here are the basic instructions from Diane Hayden.
Hospitality works best with each person brings one – two items. We have one nut free table and one store bought table. Set up usually begins about 10:15 make coffee… 1 cup of decaf coffee to 15 cups of water. For the regular coffee 1 1/2 cup to 25 cups of water works best! Plug- in right away! Set up two tables with tablecloth for center of the room. Use the napkins, paper plates and paper plates that are available for hospitality use. (Kerrie Fraser has asked that we keep this table against the wall as the children sit around the white circle on the floor in fellowship hall during Seeds. time) Be sure to cover the goodies with a tablecloth when you go up to worship service. At the last song, make your way downstairs to put out the cream and apple juice (will be provided) for the kids ( pour several half cups of apple juice). Replace tables to center of room at the beginning of hospitality hour.
You will find FBC aprons to protect your clothing while serving Finally, clean up and put away dishes etc. Extra food may be marked, dated and place in freezer. Be sure to mark the nut free table. Clean up should begin about 12:30…start clearing off the tables….with the hope that everyone is out by 1:00 Please make sure everything is dried and put away , before leaving!
Can’t wait to eat your guy’s food this coming Sunday!
We’re on for youth group from 6-8pm! Come on out and bring your friends. These are the catechism questions we’ll be discussing tonight. If you’re a parent, please try and review over these with your kids sometime this week. Thanks! FBC Intern -Jonathan Romig

Every day millions of people give into temptation through misusing their Internet browsers. We understand that safeguarding this area of our lives can be very difficult because of the online resources required to complete homework assignments and to interact with friends.
Christ calls us to resist these temptations just as He gives us hope that we can honor God with our actions and hearts. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 says, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”
For anyone looking to safeguard their computer, I would like to recommend an accountability and filtering software called Covenant Eyes (aff link). People from all walks of life use this program to safeguard their online experiences. I encourage you to watch the video below which explains how the software works.
If you or your parents sign up for this program, use the coupon code “standsolid“ to receive the first month of service free and the subsequent months for $8.99 per month. Add usernames for $2.00 each per month along with filtering for $1.50 each month.
If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me (your YG leader Jonathan). I am an official Covenant Eyes affiliate and would love to answer your questions about the service. I hope this helps you safeguard your family’s computers.
We’re going to watch some football and play some games and have a grand ol’ time!
Come to Ben Pyke’s house (email youth@fbcreading.org or FB Monica for the address)
6pm on Superbowl Sunday (Feb 5th)
Ends when the game ends.
We’ll bring the drinks, you bring the snacks.
SPEAKING of snacks,
if you’d like to tell us what you plan on bringing, that could make sure we don’t have 15 people bringing sauerkraut. Whats that? Sauerkraut isn’t a traditional Super Bowl food? What football do YOU watch?
…You get the idea. Feel free to comment here or on the FB event.
In light of today’s business meetings we will be canceling the France Info Session until further notice. Sorry to keep moving this around, please keep FBC and its connection and work in France in your prayers.
In other news, we WILL be having Youth Group tonight!
6-8, normal routine, come have some fun and learn about Jesus!
